Rooting Hormones, yes or no?

zz plant cuttings
I am happy that I can still share my experiences with you all, especially my plant-related experiences.  I am glad that many of my friends decided to take up the plant hobby as well. We can make our planet green again, guys. I am pretty sure! Haha. By the way, I love spending time near my plants while writing an article.
Lately, I used rooting hormones for my plant cuttings to encourage faster rooting. I know many of you are impatient to wait for your plants to grow. Yes, me too. That's why I tried rooting hormone. Every plant grows differently. Some root faster than others.
But, do you need a rooting hormone for your plants?
In this article, I will show you how to use the rooting hormone and tell you if in my experience, it was worth using it.
I used the rooting hormone for my pilea, snake plant, zz plant, some of my peperomias, Dieffenbachia, monstera monkey leaves, and golden photos. Anyway, the rooting hormone I used is only for houseplants, not plants intended for consumption. Usually, the rooting hormone comes packed in a small bottle. You don't need to use a lot of the rooting hormone with your plant cuttings. It's enough if you only brush the area in which the root will emerge. For my plant cuttings, I use the Clonex Wachstumsregulator rooting hormone, 50ml. It’s easy to use.

Pilea

This plant rooted faster with the rooting hormone. I experimented with two leaves of pilea. One I treated with the hormone, the other I just put in water. I was amazed at the result. Within three days, the roots had already emerged. The other one without the rooting hormone rooted after around two weeks. The pilea stem also rooted fast with the rooting hormone.

Snake Plant

moonshine, one rooted, anothey notthe last one rootes faster

In general, snake plants root slowly. About three months ago, I propagated some Laurentiis. I put them directly on the substrate. It took around two months until they rooted. A month ago, I used the rooting hormone for my moonshine cuttings. The result is very different on each leaf, as you can see in the pictures. I cut three moonshines first. Of the two one already rooted, after a month, and the other still hasn’t. Surprisingly, the one that I cut two weeks ago rooted after one week and has the longest roots compare to the others.
So, the rooting hormone helped the snake plant to root faster, although, one leaf hasn't rooted yet.

Zz Plant

This plant also rooted faster with the rooting hormone. However, usually, zz plants root slowly. The rooting hormone helped and the zz plant rooted after one month. I made cuttings from the stems as well as from the leaves. I used the hormone on all cuttings except for one stem. That stem also rooted after one month, but the roots are smaller, and fewer compared to the other stems. You can see the result in the picture.

Peperomia

I love making cuttings from my peperomias. I cut three different kinds, Hope, Rana Verde, and Red Luna. The cuttings from the peperomias rooted and grew very fast with the rooting hormone. See the pictures!
I cut my Rana Verde around three weeks ago. The result is different, but they all have grown.
The Red Luna also rooted already. I bought it a few weeks ago and during the transport some leaves fell off. I put some of the fallen leaves in substrate and hoped that they still would grow. Yes, they rooted after one week.
The Hope also rooted and grew faster compared to the one without the rooting hormone.

Dieffenbachia

I bought this plant last year. My Dieffenbachia was always beautiful. However, I didn't realize that it got pests because my Dieffenbachia always seemed healthy. Until I put my Dieffenbachia next to other plants and the other plants got its pests, as well. I made cuttings from the stems as well as from the leaves. Now, the leaves look very small, as you can see in the picture. Lately, I also cut some stems to root. I just tried it for the first time. The roots emerged within two weeks with the rooting hormone. Unfortunately, I forgot to do one without the rooting hormone for comparison. So, I cannot say anything about the difference.

Monstera Monkey Leaves and Golden Photos

I group these plants together because they are very similar in how they grow. I didn't see a big difference when I used the rooting hormone for these plants in comparison to not using it. Both plants rooted at the same time as did the cuttings without the rooting hormone.  Usually, both plants will root after one week without any rooting hormone. The little difference is that the rooting hormone made the roots stronger.
Sorry, I don't have a picture from monstera monkey leaves that rooted. I already planted them in the substrates.

All plant cuttings grow and root differently with or without rooting hormone. However, the rooting hormone helps the plants root faster and makes the roots even stronger. Sometimes it leads to the growth of more roots, as well. I hope this article helps you decide whether rooting hormones are the right choice for your lovely plants.
Stay healthy! Xoxo, Rita
