DIY How to Make a Macrame Plant Hanger

selfmade macrame

I want to share with you how to make a macrame plant hanger yourself. I started to make them last year because I needed some for my hanging plants, and it's also a good way if you have a small apartment. It makes your apartment look more beautiful in my opinion and it is better than a hanging basket plant made of metal or plastic.

Making a hanger is very easy. What we need are a macrame cord, scissors and a potted plant. Usually, I choose a neutral color for the macrame cord. How long you choose your cord depends on how big your plant pot is. Normally, for my big plant pots, it's enough that the length of the cord is as long as your outstretched arms. In this article, I show you the simplest way to do it. Let's begin.

Steps:
1. Cut three cords with the same length. Cut each in half but
keep them as pairs. Tie the pairs together at one end. This knot forms the bottom of the hanger. Put your plant pot on the knot to make sure it fits.

2. Then tie a knot in each pair of cords. The knots should be positioned at the middle of the plant pot, as you can see in the picture.

3. After that, you add second knots to your cord pairs. This time a little bit higher than the plant pot.

4. In the end, you make a final knot at the top, then put your plant pot into it again. Voila. That's it.

If you want to make it a little more challenging, you can add a new variation as you see in the picture. I made four equal cords and multiplied in three. The number of cords can be adjusted to your liking. I always make it differently, sometimes 3x4, 3x3, or 4x3. I love it when the bottom knot doesn't have the same length.

I hope it's clear enough. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Stay healthy!
Xoxo, Rita
